Hiroshima's history requires no introduction, and nearly all visitors to the city come to visit the Peace Park, where the atomic bomb and its aftermath are remembered. Folded paper origami cranes, strung together by the thousand, are left as prayers for peace amongst the Peace Park's statues and green lawns.

Understandably, very few of Hiroshima's original buildings still stand, and those that do are poignant reminders of the bomb. But the city miraculously re-built post-war, and Hiroshima is now a thoroughly modern city, remarkable mainly for its tragic history and high number of drinking establishments.
